RELM alpha, found in inflammatory zone belongs to known RELM1 / FIZZ family cysteine rich secretory proteins and homology resistin. It is abundantly expressed in white adipose tissue, but not in preadipocytes, but the 3T3-L1 adipocytes. RELM alpha expression is detected in the bronchial epithelium and type II pneumocytes. RELM beta is a cysteine-rich protein is specifically expressed in the intestine. It is highly homologous resistin and RELM alpha.
