What is methylphenidate

Methylphenidate is a stimulant of the central nervous system. It affects the neurotransmitters in the brain and nerves that contribute to hyperactivity and impulse control.

Methylphenidate is used to treat Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD), ADHD, and narcolepsy.

Methylphenidate may also be used for purposes other than those listed in this drug guide.

Important information
You should not use methylphenidate if you have glaucoma, tics or Tourette's syndrome or severe anxiety, tension or restlessness.

Do not use methylphenidate if you have taken an MAO inhibitor within the last 14 days, including isocarboxazid, linezolid, methylene blue injection, phenelzine, rasagiline, selegiline, tranylcypromine and others.


Methylphenidate may be a habit. Do not take this medication with anyone, especially someone with a history of addiction or addiction.
