Description:
Crystal violet lactone (CVL) is a leuco dye, crystal violet lactone 10B. In its pure state is a slightly yellow crystalline powder, soluble in organic solvents, non-polar or slightly polar.
It was the first dye that was used in carbonless copy papers and is still widely used in this application. It is also Leukofarbstoffkomponente in some thermochromic dyes, eg in the Hyper clothing color line. One of its new applications is a security element for fuels.
