What is Etidronic acid
Etidronic (etidronate disodium) has a new authorized indication for the prevention of bone loss due to corticosteroid therapy. Three randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trials were conducted in this setting. The benefits of etidronics were based solely on lumbar BMD (a surrogate endpoint) and showed that in women. There is no concrete evidence that etidronic is more effective than placebo in reducing the risk of fracture in patients with corticosteroids. Similarly, in the absence of comparative trials are not evidence that etidronic is more effective than hormone replacement therapy in postmenopausal women.
