Dissymmetric dimethylhydrazine (UDMH) (1,1-dimethylhydrazine) is a volatile toxic, hygroscopic liquid with a strong clear, fish-like, ammoniacal odor that is typical of organic amines. It is yellowish when exposed to air and absorbs oxygen and carbon dioxide.
UDMH is often used in hyperpolar bipropellant rocket fuels only in combination with the oxidizing agent and nitrogen tetroxide less frequently with IRFNA (red fuming nitric acid) or liquid oxygen. UDMH is a derivative of hydrazine, and is sometimes called hydrazine. As fuel in specification MIL-D-25064 is described.
