Description: Celastrol, a vegetable triterpene, has these effects. At nanomolar concentrations was found that Celastrol preventing the production of human monocytes and macrophages of pro-inflammatory cytokines TNF-alpha and IL-1 beta. Celastrol also reduced the expression induced by MHC class II molecules by microglia. In stem cells of macrophages and endothelial cells induced by Celastrol has reduced but not constitutive NO production. Celastrol's powerful antioxidant and anti-inflammatories and their effects on cognitive functions suggest that the drug may be useful in neurodegenerative diseases accompanied by inflammation to treat, such as AD.
