Fuchsin Basic Sodium Sulfite Agar

A new medium without antibiotic selective for Bifidobacterium spp. is defined. This medium lactulose as main carbon source and includes methylene blue, propionic acid and lithium chloride as inhibitors of a number of related species of bacteria. The low value of pH of the medium contributes to the inhibition of the growth of enterobacteria. This new means of selection has a simple composition and the resultant recovery rate is similar to those found on non-selective medium for Bifidobacterium strains. it is for routine analysis in the world of environmental and food microbiology ~~ POS = TRUNC could be used.
