The form of the acetate salt of analog cortisone, synthetic or semi-synthetic hormone cortisol naturally by the adrenal glands with anti-inflammatory and immunomodulatory properties. The cortisone acetate diffuses through the cell membrane and binds to the core glucocorticoid receptor. The receptor-ligand complex binds to the promoter regions of certain genes and initiates transcription of RNA. This leads to an induction of the synthesis of certain anti-inflammatory proteins, while inhibiting the synthesis of certain inflammatory mediators.
