Etonogestrel

A synthetic form of the naturally occurring female sex hormone progesterone. Etonogestrel binds to cytoplasmic progesterone receptors in the reproductive organs and progesterone receptor mediated gene expression and then activated. It follows that the negative feedback mechanism of luteinizing hormone (LH), the release is inhibited, which leads to inhibition of ovulation, and changes in the cervical mucus and the endometrium.
