Copper Mould Tube
lotus-type porous-metal with long cylindrical pores aligned by unidirectional solidification from the melt with a dissolved gas such as hydrogen, nitrogen or oxygen product. gas atoms can be solved by using an atmosphere of pressurized gas or thermal decomposition of gaseous compounds present in the melt. Three types of solidification techniques have been developed: the casting of the mold, the continuous zone melting and continuous casting techniques. The last method is superior in terms of mass production of Lotus metals. The anisotropic behavior of the observed mechanical properties, sound absorption and thermal conductivity of the inherent anisotropic porous structure. In particular, remarkable anisotropy in mechanical strength is due to the stress concentration around the pores aligned perpendicular to the load direction. Sinks are a promising application of Lotus metals due to the high capacity cooling with a large heat transfer.
